The other day ago, I was looking up stock imagery, as I often do, and I ran across this Christmas stock. The first thing that popped into my head was “Dirty Santa.” I get it, the artist was going for a rustic vibe and all of that but to me, the design went against everything I think Santa is about. It seemed off-brand. It wasn’t warm and jolly. It didn’t feel friendly, it felt harsh and impersonal… and well… dirty. I don’t want to sit on that Santa’s lap!

It got me thinking about how often businesses pull their brand strategy out and review it, making sure that what they are putting out in the world is actually in alignment. I like calling it wearing your “brand hat.” Anytime you create touchpoints or content you should put on your brand hat to make sure that they truly reflect your brand.

With everything you do, you must be clear, consistent, and relatable.

“What does that mean?” you might ask.

You must be clear on who is your audience and create your content just for them. The values you uphold and provide should be well articulated. Your audience should find what you post recognizable as being “you.” This is because you should strive to be consistent in presenting your brand. Doing all this makes you credible and creates trust. Trust leads to quality customers.

So don’t be a Dirty Santa! Make sure that what you are putting out there really matches who you are and attracts the right audience!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
